Gay Lefty to Lead Iceland

Here’s an eye-opener that should get tongues wagging.

From globeandmail.com: Gay woman minister to become Iceland’s PM.

The woman expected to become Iceland’s interim prime minister is an openly gay former flight attendant who rose through the political ranks to lead a new leftist government.

Johanna Sigurdardottir, the island nation’s 66-year-old social affairs minister, began as an union organizer for flight attendants and is now among the country’s longest-serving lawmakers.

Both political parties forming Iceland’s new coalition government support her appointment — and a decision could be announced as early as Thursday.

“She is a senior parliamentarian, she is respected and loved by all of Iceland,” said Environment Minister Thorunn Sveinbjarnardottir.

So, let’s get this straight…

She’s a woman.
She’s gay.
She’s a former union organizer.

And no one’s complaining?

Well, not so fast. If the country has right wingers, well…

Conservative critics say Ms. Sigurdardottir’s leftist leanings and lack
of business experience won’t help her fix the economy. “Johanna is a
very good woman — but she likes public spending, she is a tax raiser,”
Mr. Haarde said.

Yeah, I know; another “conservative” whose government can’t pay the bills, but all he can think about are tax cuts. But wait…

Can you imagine any Republican leader right now calling her a “good woman”?

This century is already shaping up to be a magnificent one. I couldn’t be happier for minorities everywhere. I couldn’t be happier for women everywhere. I couldn’t be happier for gays and lesbians everywhere. And what exactly is wrong with bigger government as long as they are doing what is right? Republicans are for big government as well, but they prefer to lie about it instead. They are too controlling when it comes to social issues. And look at where our last “conservative” got our countries deficit. Give me a break.

The Inanity of “Revolution.”

About once a month, something comes across my Facebook feed along the lines of, “I don’t know how the hell we children of the 1950s and 1960s survived. We were tough and we did all kinds of things that are considered really dangerous these days and, as a result, we …

Issa’s IRS “Scandal” is a Joke, as is the GOP

Darrell Issa is right about one thing; no individual or group should be singled out arbitrarily for scrutiny by any government agency, including the IRS. That is. unless they are plotting to break the law. As a liberal, I find it odd that Issa and other Republicans have just now …

Cutting the Crap on the Snowden Q & A With the Guardian

If the Guardian wants to salvage any credibility at all, they need to jettison Glenn Greenwald. They should also apologize for giving this guy free rein, with no editorial control. It’s one thing to set up a blog and let him blather on with his opinions. But a news organization …
