I am sick to death
of the Tea Party bullshit. I’ve just plain had it.
First of all, I refuse to take them seriously as a "movement." It's not a movement; it's your classic "astroturf." A number of rich crooks are taking advantage of the most ignorant assholes in our society and they're using them to raise money.
Now, I will admit that, for a long time, I
was among those delusional folks who tried to be
diplomatic and give them the
benefit of the doubt. Yes, I am among
those who have said in the past that “some of the points the Tea Party makes
I was wrong.
I have spent the
last several weeks examining the Tea Party, and I’m here to tell you; there’s no
there there. The Tea Party “movement” obviously
has nothing to do with patriotism, and there is no corollary between what these
ignorant assholes say and do and any of the events that led to the
revolutionary war. After examining this charade and its elements, I’m here to
tell you; this entire “movement” is
nothing more than an attempt by moneyed interests to motivate stupid, ignorant,
racist crackers to put them back into power.
Yes, I said
stupid, I said ignorant and I said racist. And I am setting out to prove all three.
This has to
be a multi-part piece, because there is so much to tell about these assholes. Since I started writing this, I have amassed almost 50 single-spaced pages of material, and collected about 100 photos. I will deal with the racism aspect of the Tea Party movement first,
because that’s what’s all over the news at the moment, and also because understanding that the entire movement is meant to appeal to racist elements is the key to understanding why teabaggers are teabaggers. But in other installments, I will
discuss just what the Tea Party “movement” claims to stand for — taken from their own websites and literature, and I will prove that
what they claim to stand for is empty rhetoric that stands for absolutely nothing. I will prove (yes, I said PROVE) that the
minions in the Tea Parties are nothing more than ignorant assholes, who love their pretend ideology more than their country. And I will also
prove that it is the mainstream media that has created this phony “movement,”
and make a case that the puffery involved with promoting this garbage is not confined to Fox Noise alone.
Finally, I plan to show how to stop this “movement” dead in its tracks. One thing about this
blog; we don’t just bitch; we try to solve problems. And these racist crackers
are a problem.
By the way, just
so the right wingers can follow along, I’ll be including pictures – LOTS of
the time I'm finished with this series, there will be no fricking way a teabagger will be
able to claim they “never saw” anything suggesting that they are not
racist, homophobic, ignorant assholes, because you will be able to show them.
And yes. They are
I know, I know. It's convenient to suggest that there are only a few “racist elements” in the Tea
Party movement, but it’s not reality. In fact, until Mark Williams and Dale
Robertson were called out within the past week for extreme racism, the entire
right wing fart machine sat by and said nothing about overt racism that has
been going on since President Obama took office. The overt actually started
before he was even elected, but it’s accelerated well beyond anything we have
seen in politics since the civil rights era.
See, Williams and Robertson aren't just teabaggers. These incidents involve two leaders of the Tea
movement. That’s right; I said LEADERS.
Now, if the teabagger apologists were correct, and there are only a scant few racist individual teabaggers (and I will
continue to call them that, no matter how much they complain, because that’s
what they called themselves), and that they don’t represent the thoughts and
feelings of a majority of teabaggers, then how in the hell did they become
leaders? Either they were elected to these leadership positions – meaning the
teabaggers consciously chose racists to lead them – or they were appointed leaders by
others who found their racism to be no big deal, or even a plus. And look at
their constant bitching, folks. I know, if I was part of a political movement
and its leaders were an embarrassment like that, they’d be out the door so
fast, it’d make your head spin. Yet, even after he wrote the following, radio
talk show host and leading teabagger Mark Williams penned the following. Keep
in mind; to a teabagger, this is considered “funny.” Ha fricking Ha.
Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole
emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves,
and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask
of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!
we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to
condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea
party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare
and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist
would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the
bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association
for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should
be granted the right to disperse the funds.
ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What
kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have
somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for
ourselves and make decisions!
The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control
spending.” Again, they directly target coloreds. That
means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that
is just not right.
the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government
“stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide
screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally
racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?
Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares,
room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please
repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.
Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew NAACP Head Colored Person
about assholes like Mark Williams. They truly do not think they're racists. The letter above was augmented by a couple of “updates.”
One of them (which can be found HERE) is a reaction to the (Fix News sponsored) Tea
Party Express being kicked out of the Tea Party Federation, an ad hoc group of
regional tea parties, because of Williams’ offensive “letter.” In true cowardly
racist fashion, rather than apologize, Williams brags about the massive membership of the Tea Party
Express and suggests that his teabagger group is bigger than all of the
teabagger groups in the Tea Party Federation put together. When confronted with their own failings, right wingers will always whip out something to prove theirs is bigger than someone else's.
But think about
this a minute. His group has 400,000 members. And the Tea Party Federation – which
consists of 85 teabagger groups – apparently has fewer than that. So, why in the HELL is the media
puffing this shit up so much? These groups – considered the largest tea party
groups in the fricking country, boast of about three quarters of a million
people? Three times that many people watch Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity every
night, and they don’t exactly have massive audiences. After two goddamned years
of this crap, they can’t even boast of a million members? Not even one –third of
one percent of the population? THIS is what they’re hanging their hat on for
taking back Congress? Really?
get into that in more detail later.
would think the other “update,” what with the flak Williams has received in the
press. But in true teabagger fashion, it’s not. Williams not only doesn’t apologize to anyone
for his obviously racist “parody,” he calls out the Tea Party Federation for
complaining in the first place. This post
is HERE, and here’s how it
I have offended some self-anointed tea party “leader”, a guy named Webb
from a fringe tea party-like group that calls itself the “Federation”.
you, there is no tea party leadership or even a single tea party…there are
millions of tea partiers involved in thousands of groups; every tea partier is
a tea party leader. But something happens when the stronger egos and
personalities in a movement begin to feel a sense of ownership. It is not
long before they act to claim and defend that feeling.
Notice anything strange?
recently. Therefore, by his own definition,
wouldn’t HE be one of those “stronger egos” he talks about? And if he considers
the Tea Party Federation a “fringe tea party-like group,” why the hell did he
join it in the first place? See, what he’s hoping his followers are too stupid
to notice (and this is the ignorance the entire teabagger movement is based upon,
to be blunt) is that to be “kicked out” of a group, you had to belong to it in
the first place.
Of course, this goes both ways. In an
article in the Boston Herald, Tea Party Federation spokesmodel Christina
Botteri said Williams’ “parody letter” was “offensive, egregious and racially
charged.” She went on to say that “The issue with Mark has more to do with this
ongoing behavior of unhelpful dialogue,” Botteri told the Herald yesterday.
“He’s a 20-year veteran, radio shock-jock guy and not really a Tea Party guy.”
In the same article, the president of the Greater Boston Tea Party called the
blog post “absolutely disgusting” and said she
doesn’t want Williams to use the Tea Party name in “any way, shape or form.”
Not really a Tea Party guy? Doesn’t want him using
the Tea Party name? It seems to be a bit too late for that. For six months he's been bragging about getting Scott Brown elected, in between racist and hate-filled rants. Now that he's crossed some sort of phony line, he's persona non grata and can't be a teabagger? Take a look at the signs here from teabagger rallies; I'd say he fits right in.
Williams is not just your run of the mill teabagger.
Williams is a radio host from California, as the chairman of the Tea Party Express, he grew it into what is arguably one of the most influential of the
teabagger groups. The Express has raised $2.3 million this year, and though the
Greater Boston Tea Party apparently wants nothing to do with Williams
now, she sat by for six months while he took credit for helping elect Scott
Brown, although anyone with half a brain knows that Martha Coakley did that. His
group also organized a teabagger rally in Nevada where Caribou Barbie spoke. (This blog doesn’t enough respect for her to
call her Sarah Palin. Sorry)
So, in the end, after
pressure from the NAACP and pretty much everyone with a sense of decency, Williams finally took
down his “letter” and replaced it with a typical racist non-apology apology. You see, according to him, he’s not racist – everyone who pointed
out the racism in his racist “letter” are the real racists. It’s those racist
bastards in the NAACP who are the real racists, because they hang onto an
archaic name that includes the phrase “colored people” in it. HERE
is where you can find the replacement post, but you don’t have to go there; you
can read it all below:
start of my interview on MSNBC this morning I was informed by the anchor that
Ben Jealous, author of the NAACP anti-tea party resolution has offered
something of an olive branch and wants to open discussions with tea partiers
regarding dialing down the unproductive shots going back and forth. After the
interview I contacted his office via email and provided him with all of my
contact information, including my private telephone number in order to speak
man to man with him and find common ground for progress. I do hope that he
follows through and calls. The first round of beers at our ’summit’ will
be on me.
what I believe to be a sincere move by Mr. Jealous I recognize that I have a
responsibility to act in kind (just as I did in response to the NAACP’s
anti-tea party resolution and what was said about us) and that the continued
controversy over this post can only dectract from the discussions.
Furthermore, I applaud Mr. Jealous and welcome his willingness to
help move us past talking points and personalities. This nation has real
problems and we are in real danger. That is no time for Mark Williams and
Ben Jealous to get into a battle of egos and personalities.
made now we move forward.
Forget the bad grammar and spelling. Forget the ignorant
tone. See, he’s not a racist, because he gave the head of the NAACP his private
telephone number so’s they can talk. He’s even promised to buy the guy a beer,
just like President Obama. Gosh, doesn’t that make you tear up and wanna sing
Kumbaya? Well, don’t do that quite yet. That’s not the entire “open letter.” It actually takes something of a 180-degree turn.
end and as a reciprocal gesture I have removed the parody letter you came here
to read and urge you to fight those who seek to divide us by race, no matter
the color of the racist. Our fight is against tyranny and for liberty and to
see that this nation continues the lofty goal of equality for all set for us by
our founders. Make no mistake though, there are those for whom peace and
progress is poison and they will continue to circulate the several versions of
my article (Yes, there were several versions. As reasonable people
pointed out to me wording that I agreed was indeed objectionable it was removed
or changed by me personally.) I am also very happy to learn that we all
agree that the term “Colored People” is offensive, so now would perhaps be a
good time to let the National Association of Colored People know so
that they may chose a more appropriate moniker.
that Mr. Jealous and others realize their error and seek to mend fences it
becomes my job to not offend rational people who disagree with me on the
relevant issues while not sacrificing the truth. I heard too from many
very sober and thoughtful people who counseled me that my comments were an
obstacle to progress and that I missed my intended target. The day that
I cannot learn something new will be the one following the coroner’s signature
on my death certificate and this is not that day. So, with that I
reiterate what I and every tea partier have said repeatedly: We denounce
racists of any color and all those who seek to divide the American People along
suggest to those offended by the term “Colored People” (the phrase that made my
article so controversial) please contact the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People and join me in calling for an end to their use of
the racial slur and that Mr. Jealous take me up on my offer to travel
with me on the next Tea Party Express so that he may meet all of you in person.
His contact information is below.
Talk about your clueless racist crackers. And no, I will not
take it back. I’m sick of being polite to people like this. I have taken people
like this on in my personal life, and I will not let it stand publicly, either.
Note the complete lack of an apology. In fact, not only does
he NOT apologize for the “letter,” he tries to
blame EVERYONE ELSE for its
content. It’s especially telling that he sees fit to defend himself against the
likelihood (see above) that people would have already cut and pasted it in its
entirety and posted it elsewhere by claiming there were “several versions.” I call
The “letter” I posted above was cut and pasted directly from
his blog; HE wrote it, and it’s offensive as it stands. He posted it, and he
bears full responsibility for posting it. I don’t give a shit if he later
changed it a bit in a vain attempt to make it less offensive; the above came from his blog. He’s
See, this is why right wing "humor" is never funny. Conservatives can be funny, but far right wingers cannot. In order for something to be funny, it has to ring true. It doesn't have to be true; it just has to be plausible. The "parody" above doesn't ring true; it's simply mean. This is why Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are such terrible comedians.
The above also proves that Williams’ racism is so ingrained
that he doesn’t understand why people objected to his “parody” in the first
place. The “letter” isn't racist simply because it uses the term “colored
people.” Yes, I know media types focused
on that aspect of the letter, but that’s because they’re slovenly
and lazy and
don’t really like to work hard. But that's not the problem. Go
ahead and replace the terms “colored” and “colored
people” with “African-American” or “Black,” and his “parody” is still offensive
as hell. Based on the assumptions that “parody letter,” black people apparently hate having to
work for a living, love welfare and enjoy being completely dependent on the
government for everything. Jesus Christ,
people; am I the only thinking he’s probably upset at himself because he couldn’t figure out how to
fit fried chicken and watermelon into the piece? Am i the only one surprised that he didn't include pictures of minstrels.
This is how deeply ingrained racism is within the teabagger movement. And don't be shocked. This is a logical extension of the "Southern Strategy" Republicans have been milking for forty years. The fact of the matter
is, the leaders of this relatively small “movement” are politicians and industry leaders, who recruit the most ignorant
people they can find to propagate their agenda, because no one with a brain would believe it. It's just coincidence that the most ignorant people in our society tend to be racist.
These people deeply believe that black folks have been waiting to rise up in retribution for slavery and
kill all the white people and take this country for themselves. (Mostly, it's because that's what they would do in the same position.) They truly
believe that all “other” races will gather together, take over this country and
enslave all of the white people.
They’ll deny it publicly, but they see the
election of Barack Obama as a “shot across the bow” – a warning
that a “race
war” has begun. They truly cannot fathom that black people truly just want to
be accorded the same respect and dignity as everyone else in this society, and
want the same opportunities as everyone else. Of course, paradoxically, they
also believe that almost all black people are lazy, shiftless, that most of
them are on welfare and so dependent on government that the very idea of losing
their benefits ares the shit out of them. I have talked to a number of these
idiots, and they truly cannot discern the difference between white racists
calling black people n****rs and black people using the term themselves. Context is meaningless to these folks. There is no doubt that Mark Williams and most of the teabaggers truly believe that the sole objection to his “parody
letter” is his use of the words “colored people.”
I told you; these are not bright people.
This is not the only evidence of Williams’ racism. He has a
long, stellar record of making racist comments on his radio show and elsewhere. (Media Matters has a few examples HERE. And before you teabaggers
start bashing Media Matters, I'm afraid you're going to have to PROVE they're wrong.) The major reason Williams cited when he stepped down as Tea Party Express
chairman last month was so that he could spend more time on his newest pet
project, in which he plans to fight against a proposal to build a mosque near “Ground
Zero” in lower Manhattan, near where the World Trade Center once stood. Not
content to insult just the one religion, Williams is such a skilled racist, he
made it a two-fer. Actually, you could
call it a three-fer, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Here’s what he posted on his blog on May 18 of this year:
animals of allah for whom any day is a great day for a massacre are drooling
over the positive response that they are getting from New York City officials
over a proposal to build a 13 story monument to the 9/11 Muslims who
hijacked those 4 airliners.
monument would consist of a Mosque for the worship of the terrorists' monkey-god
and a "cultural center" to propagandize for the extermination of all
things not approved by their cult.
Yes, that’s right. In two short sentences, Williams insults
the same God he claims to worship as a Christian (although to be fair, he and
his ignorant followers have no clue that the God of Islam is the same God he
claims to worship), reduces Islam to “cult” status, and suggests that a mosque
is a place where Muslims go to plan the extermination of all non-Muslims.
But his insults weren’t limited to Muslims. If nothing else,
Williams is an equal-opportunity bigot. Later in the same rant, he called
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, who thinks building the mosque is a
good idea, “a Jewish Uncle Tom who would have turned rat on Anne Frank.”
It’s amazing how articulate bigots are in their racism and bigotry, isn’t
it? In just a few short words, he suggested that all Muslims are terrorists;
insulted the same God he claims to worship; and insulted a Jewish man who is
actually following the tenets of his faith. It makes you wonder if there is
anyone Williams actually likes.
Once again, this is not a run-of-the-mill teabagger; this is
someone who has been proclaimed a “leader” by at least 400,000 teabaggers.
And he’s not the only leader to be caught with his
proverbial pants down.
In our next installment, you'll meet Dale Robertson and several other racist teabaggers. Won't that be fun?
I promise… more pictures…
