Once again, President Obama showed why he is a credit to the United States as President with his level-headed approach to policy on all levels, as well as his willingness to take on the idiots in the Republican Party, led by their titular head, one Donald J. Drumpf, er, Trump. In the wake of the tragic Orlando shooting, Obama took on Trump and other like idiots who think that, somehow, if you recite the words, radical Islam, Daesh/ISIL will somehow go to their knees and beg for mercy.
Not only is Trump not qualified to be president, if he was your uncle and he said shit like he does at the family barbecue, you’d probably consider having him committed. And President Obama called him out in no uncertain terms today, during remarks he made at the Treasury Department, once again demonstrating that anyone who is currently “Bernie or Bust” is nothing short of a petulant child having a temper tantrum.
Obama took the opportunity to confront the “yapping” from “politicians who tweet” (gee, I wonder who that could be) and said what journalists should have been saying all along. Trump’s proposal that we ban Muslims from the country isn’t just stupid and childish, but it’s also potentially harmful to the national security of this country. The press doesn’t seem to have caught on to the fact that Trump is no longer the blowhard host of a reality show and a pretend billionaire who buys and sells his name for profit. As a major party candidate for president, what he says is seen all over the world right now and it has to frighten the shit out of them.
“We are now seeing how dangerous this kind of mindset and this kind of thinking can be,” Obama said. “We’re starting to see where this kind of rhetoric and loose talk and sloppiness about who exactly we’re fighting, where this can lead us.”
He also had harsh words with all of the right wing morons who take him and Hillary Clinton on because they refuse to use the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism.” (By the way, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but among Republicans, that term has morphed into “radical Islamist terrorism,” a subtle but very dark development.) The President again asked a very important question that journalists have largely failed to ask during this election season:
“What exactly would using this language accomplish? What exactly would it change?” Obama asked. “Would it make ISIL less committed to try and kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this? The answer is none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away.”
Of course, Trump was quick to respond, with a brief statement showing him to be just the dullard the President had insinuated he is. Trump said Obama “claims to know our enemy, and yet he continues to prioritize our enemy over our allies, and for that matter, the American people. When I am President, it will always be America First.”
How can anyone even consider voting for this guy? At the very least, you have to understand the advantage of voting against this guy. It’s not even “the lesser of two evils.” It’s pure evil vs. someone who is purely evil and incompetent. Weren’t eight years of Bush enough? Trump would actually be far worse. (More on that in another post.)
Seriously, people. If you call yourself “progressive” and you can’t see the value in electing Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, you’re kind of an idiot. Sorry, but we can’t let Trump anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Period. I’m not sure he should even be allowed in Lafayette Park to feed the pigeons.
