The One Impeachable Offense That is Like No Other

One reason those of us who are demanding impeachment are having a difficult time selling it to the public at-large and to Democrats in office in particular, is due to outrage fatigue.

You see, Donny Trump has been thumbing his nose at tradition and decorum since the terrible day he slithered down that escalator in the Trump Tower, to prove he was nothing more than a racist. Face it; the only part of the electorate that Trump cares about scoring with is the extreme far right. In turn, all they care about is owning liberals, which is why Trump says most of the nasty shit he spouts or Tweets on a daily basis. They get their jollies when we look pissed off; it is all they care about. They don’t care about “babies” when they sing the praises of whichever state is trying to ban abortion at a given time; they only like to the progressive movement, such as it is; they care about making liberals mad and they love to watch us scream and cry.

It is no secret that the only thing that matters to a typical Republican these days is having power. They want to be in charge, even though they have no clue as to what to do once they get there.

Trump has pulled a lot of shit in the four years since the escalator; so much that it’s damn near impossible for our outrage meters to keep up. There is just too much shit for the average voter to deal with. And while impeachment would seem to be the best remedy for his excesses and it might actually get him out of there before the next election, we had better get to it quick-like since the Republicans will make major hay if we’re still trying to impeach when the calendar changes to 2020.

So, here’s what I propose…

I say we focus all of our attention on one atrocity and put all of ur energy into tarring and feathering Trump (figuratively, of course, Secret Service) with it. Of course, his most faithful followers will come after us, but who cares? We will be doing the right thing and they will end up on the wrong side of history, as usual.

There is, after all, one action Trump has taken that is so far afield, I predict we can even get a majority of Republicans on our side. You know what that action issue is because it has to do with abusing children.

It has been almost exactly one year since the usually collected Rachel Maddow lost it one night, as she described how the Trump Administration started to rip the “tender age” children of asylum seekers away from their parents and throw them in cages, all without even the semblance of a plan for how to reunite these families. By the time the usually composed Maddow reported the story (kind of) from the Associated Press, this program had already been going on for almost two months, and more than 2,000 small children were involved.

It’s now a year later, and not long after this “zero-tolerance” program was discovered, several lower courts have demanded that the children be returned to their parents. Despite that, the program is still ongoing and thousands of “stolen children” are now believed to be permanently separated from their parents. Even more absurd, many of these children, including many who are too young to attend kindergarten, have been forced to represent themselves in court. Of course, Donny thinks they shouldn’t go to a hearing, in any case. He has said he would be much happier if he could just throw all of the asylum seekers out of here without having to waste time with courts.

Think about that a minute. These people are coming here from countries with governments that would like to kill them. They want to come here and work and make a better life for themselves and their families. And the PRESIDENT wants to send them back to be killed, without any due process. All because he is cultivating the hardest core of the Republican Party, as if that will give him enough votes to win, all on its own. Of course, it won’t. As it stands right now, he has nowhere near enough votes to win, but we can’t assume he won’t cheat his way to victory. Again.

Even if we get to impeach his fat orange ass, there is no guarantee he’ll be convicted and removed. That means, even if we get the impeachment we want, we will probably still have to beat him by a landslide in the 2020 election, and we have to defeat the entire GOP at every level, so we can restore the government to a level of competence Republicans have shown themselves incapable of.

We have to tear Trump’s ass down and make sure everyone knows what a horrible “president” he’s been. However, we have been trying to do so based on volume, and we’re failing miserably. Consider the news stories over the past week, in which Trumpers have been told what’s in the Mueller Report and they demonstrate disbelief that there are so many negatives in it. We’re trying a scattershot approach to how bad Donny is, when a laser focus on child abuse is probably the best action we can take.

Is there an American who can’t visualize a sick child thousands of miles from home, cold or hot and without a stable environment in which to grow up? Every American knows some kids, and they will be able to relate when we make the case that the child separation policy of the Trump era is ridiculous enough to demand that he be ousted, at least by election.

Last August, the last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor, 99-year-old Ben Ferencz, called the Trump Family Separation Policy “a crime against humanity,” during a long interview with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein released yesterday. This man, who helped prosecute Nazis after World War II, said learning about the Trump’s policy of Family Separation “was very painful for me.” He also noted that such a policy goes against American standards and morals. According to the Emma Lazarus poem inscribed at the base of the Statue of liberty, Ferencz said, “I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” However, with Trump’s policy, “the lamp went out… when [Donny] said no immigrants allowed unless they meet the rules that we laid down.”

In the name of the United States, Donald Trump and his underlings are still taking small children away from their families and they are apparently not prepared to ever give them back, since they are still not tracking their whereabouts. The number of missing children is still in the thousands, and the Trump Regime still has no plan to return them. In fact, these kids have been scattered all over the country and there is no end in sight.

That program is nothing short of an atrocity. Let’s focus on that and let everyone know the details about it. That and maybe the 10,000 documented lies should be enough to prevent him from winning again, and focusing on that will also make impeachment easier. Let’s do this.
